Sangha activity in San Mateo started in 2021 and grew steadily from a handful of active sangha friends to 20 participating members today, with many other friends coming to the weekly meditations.

 

The young sangha had, and still has, big dreams! Within a couple of years – and with the active support and inspiration of friends from the San José sangha – the proposal to build a DW center in San Mateo became the National Project for Costa Rica.

 

The National Sangha collected enough funds to pay the 20 per cent downpayment needed to secure a 15-year loan to buy 1250 square meters of land in a new eco-community by the Machuca River.

Where are we going?

 

The plan is to build the center in two phases, starting with the most important space, the gompa, so friends can start meditating there as soon as possible! Fundraising is already underway to meet the target to launch the first phase of construction in the first quarter of 2026.

 

May we fulfil this dream of building a DW center, where friends can gather to practice and develop together in a beautiful place, surrounded by nature, evoking a sense of the Pure Land!
